5 Things You Should Know Before Choosing A Translation Service Provider

When choosing a Translation Service (or a Language Service Provider) you need to be extra careful. The decisions your translator makes can impact your company for years to come, costing you business and valuable customers.

To help you prepare, we’ve created a quick list of 5 things you should know before jumping into this new business relationship. If you invest the time to find the right Business Translation Service, they can be a partner to you and your business for many years to come.

1. How long has the translator been in business?

It’s a simple truth – you don’t want to be somebody else’s guinea pig. Ideally, the Language Service Provider you choose should have a strong track record of at least several years. Even better – ask to see references or examples of their work. You’ll be happy you did.

2. Does the translation service have a strong team?

Ideally, you want to team up with a language service agency or firm, not just a solo translator. This way, when your business needs to expand into additional marketplaces, you can work with a team who can provide language expertise in multiple regions. A strong team is a good sign that you’re in good hands.

3. What is the translator’s work process?

You should know how the work will be performed. What is their process? You can ask this question upfront to get a clear idea of what your experience will be like as their client, but also to ensure that they do have some process. A lack of process should be a red flag to look elsewhere.

4. How will you know if the translation is accurate?

This is a tricky one. You should also direct this question to the Translation Service in question. Is there some way they can provide reassurance that the language accuracy is very high. If they’ve been in business for enough time, they’ve surely encountered this question before.

5. Can you build a long-term relationship?

Perhaps the most important thing to consider is whether or not the Translation Service you’re considering is capable of providing you with Language Service support long-term (and in crunch times) when you’ll need additional documents. The more you invest with a translator, the more you’ll get out of the relationship. Keep these 5 questions in mind the next time you set out to find the best translation service for your business!
