What kinds of files can I translate with ITC Express?
ITC Express is for quick, easy translations, so we handle the most popular simple file formats.
Microsoft Office formats
- Word (DOC/DOCX): All unhidden text will be translated, including comments.
- Excel (XLS/XLSX): Comments will not be translated.
- PowerPoint (PPT/PPTX):Â All text in the document will be translated, including hidden slides and notes. The final layout may be different from the original.
Other formats
- Adobe InDesign (IDML): Any text inside and outside the printing area will be translated. Image text, outlines, hidden conditional text, and text in hidden layers will not be translated.
- PDF: ITC Express can handle PDFs using our special PDF humAin™ service, which offers per page pricing. This service includes AI-generated translation, human post-editing, and desktop publishing. A Word file will be delivered to you with the same layout as the original PDF document. However, be sure to upload a high-quality PDF. Scanned PDFs with low resolution will not be detected correctly. For best results, make sure your PDF is in editable format. If you need to translate a low resolution PDF, we suggest you go through ITC Premium.

What should I do if I have reference files I want the post-editor or translator to look at?
A reference file helps the post-editor or translator understand your text better so they can create the best possible translation. Examples of useful reference files include an image described in the text, an image showing the content in context, and similar content you’ve already translated.
Please don’t upload reference files to ITC Express. Instead, email them to [email protected] and our project managers will send them to the linguist.
When you create your order on ITC Express, only upload the files you want translated.
How fast can my project be translated?
You can set the delivery deadline when uploading your project. Since ITC Express services include human translation or post-editing, they aren’t instantaneous. While this takes a bit more time, it means you’ll get a translation that’s accurate and higher quality.
In general, a post-editor can review 500 words per hour or 4,000 words per day. A human translator on average translates 300 words per hour or 2,500 words per day. Your project manager will notify you if the deadline you choose isn’t possible.
Or just leave the deadline field blank and the system will automatically calculate the fastest delivery time based on the number of words in your file and the language combination.
How do I know my project is completed?
You’ll get an email like the one below when your project is finished and ready to download.
What file format will I receive?
Once your project is ready, you’ll receive the same format of file you uploaded, except for PDFs which will be available to download as a Word document.
However, please note that ITC Express doesn’t provide desktop publishing services (DTP), except for our special PDF humAin™ service.
If you upload files such as IDML or PPTX, you will receive a translated file without layout adjustment. If you want a ready-to-use translated file, we suggest you choose ITC Premium services.
I created a project and approved the quote. Why hasn’t my project been started yet?
ITC Express requires customers to pay for their order before the project can be launched. Please make sure you paid for your project by going to the Payments tab in your account.
To pay, click/tap the check box to select the project, then click/tap PAY NOW and enter your payment information. Our ITC Express project manager will launch your project once the payment is received.
I haven’t gotten any emails from ITC Express. What’s going on?
Sometimes our emails get caught in spam filters, so check your Spam or Junk Email folders. If it’s been more than 24 hours and you still don’t see anything in your inbox or spam, let us know at [email protected].
What payment methods are accepted on ITC Express?
Payment is easy on ITC Express. You can pay in USD and EUR using a credit card or in USD through PayPal. Note that your credit card company or bank may charge extra fees to process your payment, depending on your location. Check your card’s terms to verify. Already work with an ITC branch in the United States, Canada or France? Then choose that country’s currency when you pay for an ITC Express project. For example, if you’ve worked with ITC USA, you’ll choose U.S. dollars when paying for your ITC Express order.
What if I need an invoice?
Go to the Payments tab in your account, select the project and click Create Invoice. This opens a pop-up window asking you to enter your company name, your tax ID and the currency.
Note that ITC Express only accepts payments in U.S. dollars, Canadian dollars and Euros. Please choose the same currency you pay in for the invoice. By default, this is set to USD, but you can change it to CAD or Euro. For example, if you pay in CAD, choose CAD in the Currency dropdown menu.
Click Create. The window will close and you’ll be back on the project payment list. Click on the orange invoice number and then Download.
What if the languages I want aren’t available on ITC Express?
Good news! ITC Premium is a great option for any other languages you need. ITC Group also offers lots of other language services like transcreation, revision, SEO translation, website localization, video localization, and more.
What if my file format isn’t on the ITC Express list?
If you’re interested in translating more complex file formats or have specific design requirements, we have another option for you: ITC Premium. There you’ll get individualized support and a full suite of language services, including proofreading, desktop publishing, content writing, and language localization.
What if I need subtitle translation that includes timecoding and follows certain character limits?
Again, ITC Premium is the best option when you have special subtitle requirements like timecoding and character limits. You’ll get SRT or VTT subtitle files ready to embed into your video project. Or let our team handle the whole process from transcription to post-production. We also offer voice-over, voice casting, synthetic voices, voice cloning and more so ITC Premium is the perfect choice for fully localizing your videos.
What happens if a document has text I’ve already translated in a previous project on ITC Express?
When you upload your first project, the system automatically creates a bilingual database called a translation memory to securely store your content for reuse in future projects. This saves time and money since you won’t pay to translate the same content twice. As always, we keep your data secure.
Note that a separate translation memory is created for each subject. So, if you create a project and choose Legal as the subject, this database won’t be available when you create a project with a different subject. The TMs only leverage 100% matches. A 100% match is a sentence that is identical to a previously translated sentence stored in the translation memory database.
Can I use translation memories from projects translated by ITC USA, ITC Canada or ITC France on ITC Express?
No. Translation memories from ITC branches aren’t available on ITC Express.
