Happy International Translation Day!

The time of year has come to celebrate our favourite subject: Translation.

Each year, translators and linguists from all over the world celebrate International Translation Day on September 30. According to the UN website, “International Translation Day is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security.”

Celebrations of International Translation Day “have been promoted by [the] International Federation of Translators (FIT) ever since it was set up in 1953.” In 1991, FIT launched the idea of an officially recognized International Translation Day. It was not until 2017, however, that “the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously [adopted] Resolution A/RES/71/288, recognising the role of professional translation in connecting nations, and fostering peace, understanding and development” (FIT.org).

Bringing Power to the People (And to Businesses)

This is the day to celebrate what translation can do. It can bring understanding to people from different backgrounds and cultures. It can open the mind to a new perspective. As literary translator Chenxin Jiang explains, “[translation] makes the perspective of an Italian doctor on Lampedusa—a story in which much of the dialogue is itself translated from Arabic and Sicilian—accessible to a reader in Newcastle or New Mexico.”

And when it comes to the success of your business? Translation just might be the key. According to Digitalist Magazine, “non-Western centric developments in global business means that there is an increasing demand for translation between many new language pairs, and this demand will last for years to come.”

We Love What We Do

At ITC Global Translations, it’s our job to bridge the gaps between worlds. We believe that our professional translators are important to helping businesses everywhere spread their wings and fly into the arena of globalization.

We work in approximately 80 language pairs for accuracy around the world. Our translators are hand-picked to ensure clarity and understanding in languages from Bulgarian to Ukrainian—and everything in between. They know how to translate words correctly, but they also know how to translate the tone and break through cultural barriers.

Not only do we know how to translate the language, we have a deep understanding of the many industries in which we work. Documents in legal and financial translation are written by people who actually know the difference between an annual report and a financial report. Medical translations are crafted by people who know the difference between MRI, CT, and PET scans. And no matter what language you want your fine cuisine menu printed in, our food industry translators have you covered.

As we celebrate International Translation Day 2021, we celebrate cultural diversity around the world. We are a Certified Women Owned Business, and we’re proud to be able to help other businesses meet their clients where they are. When you need translation services that transcend languages and cultures, contact us. We’ll be happy to help.
